Wonderful vintage Navajo sterling silver storyteller bracelet with gold plated overlaid images , handcrafted by the artist T A Bengay.
The bracelet measures 5 3/4" by 1/2" deep, with an approx 1" gap, and will fit a medium to larger wrist, which is helped by the gap beings slightly flexible, it is in good vintage order though there is some wear to the gold plate.
Storyteller bracelets tell a story of life on the Navajo reservation, this bracelet depicts a wagon, a hut, a silversmith, a weaver, a horse, a sheep, and two flying birds, it is a very lovely example of quality handmade Native American jewelry. The bracelet is marked sterling along with the the artist's and two arrows.
The Begay family are regarded as superior silver smiths, who are famous for this type of story teller bracelet, which is a form of witness to the beauty of Navajo tribal life; this is a highly collectable example of their work, it is one of my favorite items of Navajo work to date, my photos really do not do it justice.
