Interesting Hand Made Mexican Terracotta Aztec Sun God Figurine

Aztec inspired Sun God terracotta statue, of hand made and hand painted clay pottery, he measures 9" tall, is of newer vintage age, and was made in Mexico. The figure has no markings, he is in good used condition with just a couple of tiny flakes to the reverse of the head dress, he is made of made of solid clay, not hollow, and holds an elaborately detailed sun in his hands.

The Aztec people considered the Sun God as the leader of Tollan (heaven), and believed that he required human sacrifice, at the height of the Aztecs power up to 20000 people a year were estimated to have been killed to appease him.

This version of the God looks very benign, perhaps he is satiated from all the blood letting, and now just needs a quite corner in which to retreat from the modern world............Splendid in form he is very detailed, from his head dress down to the toes on his feet, he would make a great coffee table ornament, or a great accessory in any Southwestern decor.
