Superb all original antique French jewelry box or casket, in the Egyptian revival style in the form of a sarcophagus, with brass champleve mounts, dating to around 1880, when exploration of Egypt was at its height, and associated decorator items became highly fashionable. The box is of the highest quality and beautifully and consistently detailed, even the studs holding the silk head lining have a matched champleve enameled finish. The box is ebonized, it has two Egyptian heads and a matched escutcheon plate to the front, and a very ornate Egyptian head and matched banding to the lid, see photos. The casket measures 11" wide by 4" deep by 3 1/2" tall, it is in very good condition for the age, there are a couple of surface scratches to the finish (greatly magnified by the camera) some losses to the enameling, and some age toning to the headlining, but no damage, repairs or other issues, and it displays wonderfully. This is one of the most beautiful period jewel boxes I have ever had, it would shine in a collection or with period decor, it is highly unique and visually stunning.
