An attractive complete set of 7 leather bound volumes, "Source Records Of The Great War", copyright 1923, 1st Edition, Editor-in-Chief Charles F. Horne, PhD, Directing Editor Walter F Austin, LL.M.
The First Edition was printed by National Alumni as a strictly registered edition with each copy issued in the name of its owner, these were only available to military personnel that had been involved in the war. This particular set of books was registered to Philip L. Riley his records having been certified at the National Headquarters of the American Legion.
The books are a comprehensive and readable source record of the World's Great War, emphasizing the more important events, and presenting these as complete narratives in the actual words of the chief officials and most eminent leaders, they cover just about every aspect of World War 1.
The books are leather bound with gilt decoration and gilding to the top of each hand cut page. Each volume has approx 400 pages, with maps, a few pictures and illustrations. The covers of the seven volumes are all different, each represents a facsimile copy of the original art bindings of the Versailles Peace Treaty as given to the various countries engaged in the war.
The contents are as follows: Volume 1 deals with the causes of the war; Vol. 2 studies 1914; Vol. 3 studies 1915; Vol. 4 studies 1916; Vol. 5 studies 1917; Vol. 6 studies 1918; Vol. 7 studies 1919 plus an index, peace treaty, summary, statistics, Etc.
This is a fantastic reference set of handsome leather covered books about WWI. The condition of the books is as follows, Vol. 1 the back cover beginning to detach, Volume 7 both front and back bindings are beginning to detach (both issues easily restored). All the other volumes are in good condition, showing just age appropriate wear, and some page toning - see photos for details, and contact me if you need more photos.
