Very nice antique Victorian photo album with a celluloid cover depicting a square rigged ship at anchor, with poppy border. The celluloid is in excellent condition, for being over 100 years old, and has no cracks or other damage, just slight yellowing from time. The spine and back cover are covered with a luxuriant mauve patterned velvet, and there is an ornate working brass latch. There is just one photo of a grave young man, the rest of the inside pages, are empty though still beautiful with their gilt floral edges. A couple of the internal pages have some tears to the picture openings, I have photographed the very worst, the majority have little or no damage. The album measures approx 10" tall by 8" wide by 2" deep. Most of the gold gilt page edge accent remains, but there are small spots of wear. Overall this is a splendid photo album, it is sturdy and beautiful, and would be a lovely way to house an early collection.
