Face Beer Stein, Folk Art, Alkaline Glazed Pottery, circa Mid 20th Century‏

Great looking pottery face beer stein, made by an unknown artisan potter, probably from North Carolina, using the traditional alkaline glazing technique of the region. The pot is unsigned but is very well observed, executed and highly characterful, and is in outstanding condition with no chips or cracks, though there are numerous pot marks from the traditional wood fire glazing process, typical of this type of wear, see photos. A wonderful gift for the collector of artisan or traditional pottery, this displays wonderfully, is quintessential of the region, and is very amusing and distinctive.
