Rare Brass Antique Victorian Hanging Balance Scale Single Pan
This is a very rare antique one pan balance scale, probably made in Europe. The unit of measurement of weight/graduations on the beam represent 1/10lbs with 1/2, 1 and 1 1/2lbs actually marked. The scale has a brass pan to hold the item being weighed, and is all hand forged including the brass counter weight, the chain has cast links with hand forged spacers. Excellent condition for age, fully working with just the normal wear from many years of use. The scale dates to the mid to late 1800s, specifications are as follows: overall length: 18"; arm of balance: 11 1/2"; pan of balance - 7 1/2" diameter; highest weight that can be measured 1 1/2 lbs - see photos as part of the detailed description.
