Deep Relief Asian Carving, Men, Birds, Cattle, Stunningly Three Dimensional!
Absolutely stunning deep relief carving, probably Vietnamese, of a rural scene of men with cattle. The carving is extraordinary, the figures and animals are completely three dimensional, this is a highly sculptural panel with many of the figures almost free standing. The panel is approx 8" tall by 7" wide by 1 1/2" deep, I photographed with a strong front light to show the high relief, but it is even more stunning in person. The wood is fairly lightweight, probably boxwood or perhaps some type of camphor, the condition is excellent, there is some minor cracking to the very back, but no damage to the front that I could see. This would be wonderful as the focal point under a light on a shelf or dresser, I have never had another quite like it.
