This is a most unique vintage cigarette holder ashtray. It is made of a cast metal (I think it is actually aluminum) in a most unique shape. The shape reminds me of very arts & crafts or mission style rock work, as this may be a little water pond or bird bath. Then it has the little frog sitting by it's edge. There are formed areas for the cigarettes to lay and areas for them to be stood up. It has a dark blackish finish with and underlying dark green base. There are a few small areas where the finish has worn away. The frog is quite cute, mostly black but accented with yellow. Then in the center, where I am calling this the little pond, is a dark forrest green shallow glass, reminiscent of the dark green water ponds of that arts and crafts era. It measures 4 1/4" by 4 5/8" by 1 3/4" tall. It was made by The Norwood Co. of Cincinnati and is numbered 5098 6 29. I am thinking the 29 is for the year 1929. I cannot find any information about this company as of yet, but the Roycroft company was also located in Cincinnati, another company famous for it's arts and crafts style. It is such a cute and unique piece.
