Drama...this is an amazing and rare hat from ca. 1939-1941. It will be greatly admired by collectors....
The hat's silhouette...beneath the plethora of aigrette feathers...is styled like a miniature, velvet top hat... as this was one of the most favored styles during the late 1930s through the early 40s.
Covered with luscious black velvet, this hat has a nicely balanced, relatively tall crown above the typical top hat brim.
Artfully rolled...black iridescent aigrette feathers cover the hat and cascade from out of the top of the crown. All are balanced and perfectly aligned along the brim. This design treatment is almost architectural in nature...these arched feathers are absolutely gorgeous and lush.
In the very center of crown is a peek a boo layer of dyed shocking pink and black spotted feathers. This flash of the shocking pink is only evident as the hat moves or if the aigrettes are fluffed up by a soft breeze...this is a most clever and creative addition to this wonderful hat's design...
....yes, wonderfully intelligent and delightfully elegant....
The hat is styled for wear at a very severe tilt over the very front of the forehead or to the side of the head. It is comfortable to wear, since the original elastic is intact and strong...this is used to loop beneath or through the hair and used to keep the hat perfectly seated upon the head. It is truly quite magnificent and will be greatly appreciated by collectors.
In vintage near mint condition, there is a small powder mark to the front of the very interior of the hat. This minor issue may be easily cleaned by a professional.
This fabulous, elaborate ca. 1939 hat was created by Vera Whistler and according to her label, was one of a kind, over a union made foundation. The millinery union sizing label is likewise intact.
This is one of Whistler's earliest millinery creations and certainly, one of her finest.
The hat has a sizing label that reads 22 inches or 56 cm. The size is somewhat flexible depending upon the style of the hair.
**This beautiful ca. 1939-1941 fascinator styled hat is in vintage near mint (although some would certainly argue it is in mint condition) and appears to have been worn only once...and yes, even then, gently so.
The hat is absolutely clean within the interior aside from the minor powder mark (as mentioned, this should be easily corrected by a professional). There are neither stains nor unpleasant storage odors. The interior is, otherwise, pristine. There are no moth nips or any other damage. This hat comes from a professional collection, in a strictly non-smoking environment.
