This is a fine antique English, pinchbeck circular fob locket with engraved floral design. Inside there is original glass and frame with a beautiful photo in faded color of a young Victorian lady. It appears to be a hand colored sepia print. The engraving to both sides is very fine and the pinchbeck a lovely rose gold. Pinchbeck is an alloy of zinc and copper invented by Christopher Pinchbeck (1672 - 1732) a Fleet Street clock and watchmaker. It was extensively used until the late 1800s.
Dimensions are : just over 7/8 inch in diameter; 1 3/8 inch in length including the bale; weight is 8.1 grams. The locket is in fine antique condition with very little signs of wear, only a slight movement in the hinge ~ of little consequence. Closure is perfect.
This is a beautiful Victorian piece in lovely condition and with a superb touching photo ~ very collectable.
