This is a beautiful solid silver antique English vesta case made in 1901 in Birmingham. It is a rounded square in shape and a perfect size to be worn as a solid silver locket. The case has some very finely engraved swirling leaves and flowers to both sides. The back is curved in shape and there is a heavy ring on the top to suspend the case from a chain. There is a monogram in fine ornate script to one corner.
The case carries full hallmarks for sterling, Birmingham and the date 'b' for 1901. The maker was Joseph Price registered in Birmingham in 1890s ~ Makers mark J.P. The case in in fine antique condition with good closing mechanism and tight hinge. There are a minor dint to the back lower left ~ seen in image 3, and an old repair to the loop.
Dimensions are : 1 1/2 inches in length and 1/7/8 with the suspension ring; depth is 2/8 inch. Weight is a very solid 20.2 grams.
This is a very collectable solid locket, vesta with beautiful chasing to both sides. It looks stunning worn with a silver chain.
