This is a beautiful delicate piece of antique mourning or sentimental jewelry circa 1870s. It has ornate floral chasing, with a deep blue enameled border in Greek-key design and wonderful chasing on the sides. To the reverse is a glazed compartment which holds woven hair which appears original to the locket.
This superb locket measures just over 3/4 inch (just under 1 inch including the ring), by 5/8 inch wide; it weighs 3.3 grams. Unmarked it tests at least 9 carat gold front, with a gilt compartment rim. In excellent antique condition. In the last image the locket is next to a Morgan dollar as a size indicator.
A superb piece of Victorian history and in wonderful condition for it's 140 + years.
