This is a stunning and very unusual Victorian silver Scottish agate and gemstone brooch. It has very fine quality stones in a splendid combination of traditional elements of citrine, agate and silver.
Central to the piece is a raised claw set Cairngorm citrine of fine color. The claws holding it extend to form the wheel like structure of the piece. The fine stones set into the circular silver base include green bloodstone, orange jasper and grey banded Montrose agate. The outer smaller rex collet set faceted stones are Cairngorm citrines and amethysts also found in Scotland. The brooch has faint a sterling hallmark and tests as silver. The width is 1 1/2 inches ; the central citrine is just over 1/2 inch across, and the outer stones are 3/16 inch. The pin and C clasp are original and secure. The piece is in superb antique condition and weighs 10.9 grams.
This is a lovely old Scottish brooch with spectacular and rare detail and color.
