This is a very fine locket brooch from around 1870, crafted in sterling silver. It has a beautiful ornately elaborate design, with superbly chased ivy leaves as a background to a very bold overlay design with a raised oblong etched centerpiece. The design is very typical of the Aesthetic era with its emphasis Oriental form inspired by nature.
On the back of the piece there is a glazed locket compartment, for a lock of hair or a photograph. This locket brooch measures 1 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/8 inch high. It is 2/8 inch thick and it weighs a solid 9.9 grams.
The piece is in an excellent condition and the original hinged 'T' bar and 'C' clasp are sound and very secure. It is unmarked as many pieces of this period are, but the silver has been tested as sterling quality.
