Scarab Beetle Brooch - 18 Karat Gold

RARE VICTORIAN SCARAB BEETLE BROOCH - features 3 florescent lacquered Scarabs mounted in an etched cut-out 18 Karat (tested) gold pin base from the Victorian-Darwin Era. Secure "C" clasp is consistent with its age. Rarely do you find authentic Scarab jewelry of this quality in pristine condition.

The Victorian craze for the bazar and exotic was sparked by Charles Darwin in the 1800s. Rare insects/bugs were collected from exotic places around the world to incorporated into jewelry. The fascination with Scarabs comes from the early Egyptians as it was thought the Scarab pushes the sun and moon around the earth bringing day and night thus bringing good luck and fortune. Most examples have not survived because of the fragility of the Scarab.
