Mammoth Ivory Dragon French Clip Earrings

These intricately carved mammoth ivory dragon earrings are fun to wear. They are wrapped in 18k gold vermeil and backed with a framed french clip (post with clip to keep it in place on your ear). The earrings are 3/4" diameter.

The dragon is the imperial emblem of the Emperors from the Han period. The dragon, a supernatural creature, is the symbol of power, strength, wisdom and goodness and represents the utmost in attainment: good luck and success in life. It is also believed to be the guardian of hidden treasures. It represents the spirit of growth and change.

Mammoth Ivory comes from tusk of the extinct mammoth elephant that lived on the Earth from about 4.8 million to 10,000 years ago. They has been preserved in ice in the Arctic areas of Siberia, North Canada or Alaska and are found as the ice melts. Although elephant ivory is banned, fossilized mammoth ivory has been legal for over 300 years as it does not threaten any living species, and is therefore, eco-friendly and there are no restrictions on selling or buying it. Mammoth ivory is rare and expensive since they have been extinct for millions of years. The artisans that carved elephant ivory in such beautiful detail in the past are now carving mammoth ivory. I believe wearing mammoth ivory encourages the preservation of the African elephant.
