1872 Gutta Percha Hand Mirror with Cherub, Acorns, & Dragonflies
This is a very early, figural gutta percha hand mirror. It has maker DIATITE and Patent dates of 1868 & March 5, 1872 on it. The design on it is the prettiest I have ever seen. It has oak leaves and acorns with a cherub sitting on the branches. Flying around the branches are 2 dragonflies. The back of the mirror is also decorated with oak leaves & acorns. The mirror itself is shaped like an acorn.

The mirror is beveled & has some discoloration and a little bit of damage (please see photos). Also, there is a tiny crack in the gutta percha (shown in photo). It is really in fabulous condition considering it is about 140 years old.
The measures approx. 11 x 5 inches. The handle is about 4 x 1.5 inches & the actual mirrored part is about 5.25 x 4 inches.
