This is a very old Chase carriage blanket (or lap throw/buggy blanket) with a scene of a dog teasing a cat. It is from the late 1800s & is made of horse hair and/or wool. The spotted dog is barking in the striped cat on stairs, with what appears to be a window in the background. The cat and dog are done in black, brown, and cream. Also the blanket has vibrant colors of red, green gold, and blue. The border is the same color as the dog and cat.
This piece is VERY antique, and people used these a lot when riding in their carriages, so it does show wear. I did try to photograph the wear as well as I could. The first spot that I photographed is a tear and is approx. 2.5 inches long. The second is right above the 1st and is approx. 5 inches long. These two could be mended very easily.
Also pictured is a worn spot on the right side of the throw and is not worn all the way through. The top center of the blanket also has some wear that has been mended (these mends are very old and are shown in the photographs). The binding shows wear as well. The bottom left corner has some discoloration.
This piece measures approx. 62 x 43.5 inches. The back is solid black. The binding states that it is made by Chase.
