Flow Blue serving platter, Jesmond, C.T. Maling & Sons, 1893

This is a beautiful, medium-sized flow blue serving platter in the Jesmond pattern, a lovely slate blue floral pattern from the late Victorian era. The floral pattern features an ivy-like vine with a scattering of rough-petaled flowers.

About the maker: C. T. Maling and Sons from Newcastle upon Tyne. Jesmond is an affluent suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne. Naming a pattern after this area was most likely the maker's attempt to "brand" this design or honor a prominent family if not the suburb itself.

Condition issues: This piece is in excellent condition, with a few scratches and knife marks and some rubbing on the back.

Size: 17" by 14" It's a little small for a turkey would would easily hold a turkey breast or ham.

This very usable platter would make a lovely addition to your dinner table.
