Bone china was introduced at Shelley before WWI and the superior quality has made it a favorite of collectors the world over. Shelley began producing this lovely "Rock Garden" pattern in 1940 and discontinued it in 1966. In this extraordinary pattern, #13385, the exterior of the cup and top of the saucer are decorated with an abundant, colorful, floral garden scene; the likes of which are only matched by the finest gardens of the English countryside. The contrasting, pure, cream color interior of the footed cup is stunning. The shape is called 'Ripon'; with scalloped edges on the cup and around the saucer and note the scroll in the cup handle. Finally, the gilt trim was added to perfect the pieces; the result being a work of art in fine bone china. Marked in green on each piece: Fine Bone China; Shelley; and England A; the pattern #, and an artist initial: B. Both pieces are in excellent condition, no chips or damage of any kind. A perfect treasure to give as a gift, add to a collection or sip a fine tea from.
