This very elaborately decorated case is from the early 1900's. The R. Blackinton & Co. was founded in 1862 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts and manufactured sterling flatware, novelties, cigarette cases, compacts and ladies' and men's dresser ware sets. This is a wonderful example of high quality craftsmanship that was being created around the turn of the century. One side is decorated with lion figures and scrolled border; center area has script monogram JWE. Flip side is very decorative scrolling with some fine detail. Because of it's age, edges and rounded corners are slightly worn. Must have been in and out of many pockets in it's day. Inside has hallmark and 'sterling' and 845. Has a nice hinge and solid clasp; one chip area on right inside, a couple hard to find minor indents, but overall is very good condition. 3 3/4" x 3 1/8".
