NRFB 1995 Gene Doll, Premiere, Designed by Mel Odom for Ashton Drake Galleries.
This doll was given to us by the designer Mel Odom when she first debuted in 1995. She has never been taken out of her box and was one of the first three dolls produced by Ashton Drake. Gene measures 15 ½" tall, is all vinyl and jointed at the neck, shoulders and hips. She has painted eyes, applied eyelashes and rooted blond hair. She comes wearing "Premiere" a beautiful gown in black velvet and gold brocade with a black lace full over skirt with a gold satin skirt underneath. She wears simple rhinestone drops on her ears. This doll was unique in the fact that she is the only doll that was made wearing a contemporary ensemble. The company at the time was not sure that vintage fashions would catch on with the collectors so they insisted one of the three dolls would have to wear something current in fashion! At one time these dolls were selling for a high premium price as they were retired early, as noted the Jan Foulke's Blue Book, Dolls and Values, 16th Edition from 2003. She is a beautiful doll, comes from a SMOKE FREE home and his her original box and tissue. There is no paperwork on her....don't ever remember having that....
