Kiowa Strike-a-Lite Bag and Matching Awl Case
Kiowa strike-a-lite bag and matching awl case. 1870"s. It is truly rare to find a matched set of these beautiful Kiowa pieces. Made from scavenged US Calvary Post trash finds, such as officers tobacco tins, McClellan saddle scraps and recycled soldiers boot tongues. These pieces are also made from Native brain tanned leather and are all sinew sewn. Flaps and bases feature hundreds of minute tin cones fashioned with brain tan deer thongs, wonderful seed beads of clear wine red, ( a Kiowa favorite), greasy yellow, chalk white and moss green. With sterling silver tested miniature buttons and decorative thong suspensions of bohemian white trade beads and what appears to be old Peking glass Pomegranate red trade beads.
The 2 piece awl case is featured a lift and slide top and is unfortunately missing its awl.
