An absolutely classic 1880's Northern Cheyenne fully beaded pipe bag. This rare style of fully beaded fringed six tab "octopus" drops is a traditional Cheyenne form from the earliest period of beadwork. The emphasis on the sacred horizontal stripes, Sweet Medicine's Cave, floating turtle design as well as sacred lodges and eagle feather designs mark this as a classic Cheyenne pipe bag. The design elements are well balanced and pleasing to the eye. The early colors of the beadwork are harmonious especially the wonderful mix of white heart red and deep Cheyenne pink beads in all the red sections of the bag. Stitched throughout with deer or elk sinew, this 34" long masterpiece of Cheyenne bead workers society work is wonder to behold. Measuring 6 3/4" wide.
