1890's Yavapai Apache Basket

12 1/2" tray. 3" in depth. This very tightly woven Yavapai tray features a central agave flower with 26 radiating figures of dancers or birds. With lovely tight light dark patterned edge. A very tight 14 stitches per inch 3 willow rod construction make this turn of the century basket a well preserved beauty. This early basket shows signs of indigenous use in the subtle age staining and parching remnants in the interior of the basket which do not detract from the visual impact of this turn of the century piece. There are a four or five missed stitches on the rim which are only noticed in tight scrutiny and one or two abraded stitches on the inside of the basket.
