This is an Art Deco Period Sterling Silver Cigarette Case, made by Birks and W T Toghill & Co , hallmarked for Birmingham in 1937. This gorgeous piece is executed in heavy Sterling Silver of geometric form with Art Deco inspired engine turned striped finish. The interior is executed in a frosted, silver-gilt finish, faded with time and use. The period Monogram echoes the Art Deco styling. A very unusual, handsome and collectible piece, it would be wonderful as part of a collection of Silver Boxes as an example of the genre. It is in excellent condition, no visible dents, very minor surface scratches, the gold wash interior is also in superb condition. The clasp works and the case closes very well. It is marked for Birmingham Sterling with W.T.T.&CO, the anchor, the lion passant and the letter N ( year 1937), "Birks Sterling" and on the other side (inside) the lion passant and the letter N.
