Staffordshire Transferware 3 piece gravy Davenport c.1815

This is truly a rare item. It is a Davenport 3 piece gravy tureen with gilding in the "Fisherman" pattern which is a somewhat rare series of rural scenes which all show fishermen next to a river with ruined buildings in the background. Two of the three pieces are marked with the impressed Davenport anchor and the word 'Davenport' in lower case letters. The anchor with the lower case 'Davenport' indicate that this is one of the earlier Davenport pieces, circa 1815.

Condition: The top is perfect and so is the golden finial. I have never seen another like it. The stand has some wear to the gilding on the edges and is otherwise perfect. It is the base that has problems (see pictures). There are two hairline cracks which show on the inside. They start at the handles, go diagonally down about 1 1/2 inches and then curve to join. It is a very wide U crack. I must emphasize it is NOT visible on the outside. And, there is another 1 1/2 inch hairline crack on the other side. It, also, is not visible on the outside.

Dimensions: Tureen is 9" to the top of the finial and 9" from handle to handle. The stand is 8" x 6".

This is an extraordinary piece. The finial and subsequent gilding of the oak leaves are perfect and spectacular. As they say, 'where will you find another?'
