Late 1800s Portrait Miniature Woman in Lace Shawl Gilt Frame
Dating from the Victorian era but probably of French or German origins. The subject is a young woman with blue eyes and strong features posing in a beautiful intricate lace shawl. The portrait is hand painted and I haven't removed the back to investigate the medium. She is exquisitely painted and her eyes are especially expressive.
The ornate oval frame is gilded brass (ormolu) and has an easel back and a loop for hanging. The cross ribbons and floral top look quite French. A ring of rich burgundy velvet further frames the portrait. The original glass is slightly domed.
The frame measures 4 3/8" by 3 1/4". Condition of both the frame and the portrait is excellent.
