Meiji Period Japanese Satsuma Vase Sack Shape w/ Cord Tassels

A most unique vase, shaped like a sack or bag tied with a gilded cord. The body of the vase has five Immortals beautifully painted in polychrome enamels and gilt against a background of mountains with coniferous trees. They are wearing colorful kimono and are involved in everyday activity: one is serving another a steaming bowl of food, two are studying/discussing written pages, and the fifth is being contemplative/amused. The facial details are wonderful.

The top of the vase has been gathered and is folded at the neck and top. There is a thick cord in high relief which is tied in a bow around the neck and has tassels hanging down.

Standing 8 1/4" ( 21cm) high and 4" (10cm) in diameter. It is signed with red characters on the side near the bottom. Condition is excellent- just a little wear of the gold mostly around the lip.
