1950s Japanese Lacquer Shell Inlay Cigarette Dispenser Box

A great table top display- a large black lacquer cigarette dispenser box with handles- from the days when everyone smoked and a host set out lots of cigarettes for guests or for personal consumption. As the hinged box top opens, three tiered trays slide out to present 12 holders per tray, for a total of 36 cigarettes. The trays are carved wood painted white. The top has a farm scene with farm buildings, palm trees, and a farmer on a ox with a dog running alongside, all inlaid with mother of pearl (MOP).

Measurements: Bottom: 10 1/4" x 5 1/8". Box: 6 1/4" x 2 1/2"

Condition is excellent with the lacquer unscratched and shiny. The wood cigarette trays have some wear of the paint around the edges which mostly adds to the character of the piece.
