1800s Chinese Export Famille Rose Porcelain Cricket Box

Of unusual shape, this little two piece cricket box, is an elongated oval lobed bowl with an inset lid. Made of porcelain, it is hand painted with enamel colors in the famille rose palette. The long sides are decorated with boys and men engaged in various activities. An inside unglazed band has brown pigment. The lid has enameled pink flowers and gilt decoration. There are two sets of five holes to vent the smoke.

A hallmark in red paint is inside the lid. The box measures 5 1/8" (13cm) long by 3 1/16" (7.8cm) at its widest by 2" (5cm) high. Condition is excellent. The lid seats nicely in the bottom. It could function nicely as a censer or incense burner.
