Early 1900s Porcelain Souvenir Box Church Blue Hill Nebraska by Wheeling

Wheelock China located in Wisconsin, importers of fine china, latched onto the craze for souvenir china in the late 1890s and imported pieces from Germany and Austria. A postcard was used to create the image which was applied to china cups, boxes etc. and sent back to America. THis box was used to promote a business, J.F. Grimes, in Blue Hill Nebraska. A transfer of the "Christian Church" was painted in blue and fired.on the little lidded box with fancy embossed scrolls around sides and top. Gilt embellishment was added to the corners.

The box is 2.5" square and 1.5" high. It is marked on the bottom: Wheelock China Made in Austria for J.F.Grimes Blue Hill, Neb. It is in fine condition- no cracks, chips, repairs.
