I picked this up last week at a really good clock auction in historic Pittsfield Mass. I got it for a really good price and even though I found information on the well known maker I had no luck finding a value for this exact item. I think this worth quite a bit more than I have it priced at and could be a score for a alert compass person. Alright enough of that, it works fine and has a great look. All pivot points float and point. Not entirely sure of the name I see Whyte Thompson & Co and not sure if the Glasgow is where they were made or another makers name. The dial is a full 6" with the box 9" x 9". I believe it to be right around Civil War years it to be primarily used for a ships compass but being boxed could have been used on land although seems big. The box is all dovetail but has no bottom very easy fix if even needed. I tried to take some good pictures especially of the makers markings area for you collectors. Thanks for the very nice first 2 1/2 on Ruby Lane and for your time and interest.
