Offered for sale is an outstanding late 19th century Louis XV style French Provincial walnut sideboard with exuberant foliate carving. The sideboard features a grey veined marble top, which conforms to the sinuous serpentine shape. The center section is fitted with half drawers flanked on each side with hinged curved side-drawers. The front drawers overhang two hinged doors inset with exquisite floral carved panels. Scrolled pilasters divide the center from the serpentine sides, which display open conforming shelves. The buffet is raised on heavy cabriole legs with a carved valance spanning the front and sides.
High relief is exhibited in every detail of the hand carving, and the quality of construction is superb. The front drawers and cabinets have locking escutcheons. The piece is in excellent age appropriate condition, as in most French Provincial pieces, there is indication of a few worm holes, not active, mostly to the carved valance and not affecting the structure of the piece in any way.
