Presented for sale is a magnificent and rare Royal Worcester vase & cover of massive size, year date 1883, from their Aesthetic Movement period. The vase is decorated in a blush ivory background with three large panels, each decorated in various gilt and enamel floral reliefs, and separated with honey gilded bamboo shoots. The vase is raised on a heavily molded base of intertwining bamboo branches and leaves. The cover is an onion shaped dome topped with a twisted bamboo branch finial.
The vase was retailed by the prestigious Boston 19th and early 20th century store Bigelow Kennard & Co. It was inspired by the Aesthetic Movement, the seeds of which started during the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876 and the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain.
The vase is in mint condition; the beautiful brushed gold so luminous that it looks like it was made yesterday. This is Worcester's honey gilded process, a tedious application that takes many hours to complete and was obviously very costly to apply. The vase is a true "work of art" worthy of any museum collection.
Size: 20" Height by 10" Diameter (approximately).
