Offered for sale is a 1908 Deldare Ware Buffalo plate titled, "Ye Village Gossips". The plate is fully marked and signed by the artist. The cake plate is in excellent condition and features cut-out leafy handles. Buffalo pottery has inspired collectors since its beginnings in 1901 as a soap dish for the Larkin Soap Company.
The pottery was designed by William Rea, a ceramics engineer, who pioneered an olive colored clay that produced astounding gradations in color when fired. The pottery was so successful that other shapes followed and the line was given the name, Deldare Ware in 1903.
Size: 11 ¼" Diameter.
