Presented for sale is a magnificent English late 19th century highly carved Irish Georgian style mahogany armchair in the Chippendale manner. Everything about this chair speaks quality and refinement; the perfect lines of confirmation; the highly stylized cabriole legs, shell-carved into the seat rail; the extended well-carved back feet; and the chiseled lion head armrests. The dense mahogany wood with hammered out crosshatch design on the shaped back splat, the exuberant fan-carved crest, and the scrolled yoke also add to its rarity and beauty.
The wood has mellowed to a rich patina and the depth of carving is accentuated with just a touch of worn gilding to the highlights. The chair is so special that it should be presented on a podium to study for its perfect lines and exceptional craftsmanship. It has a padded tapestry-covered seat cushion that shows wear, but just enough to give it that desirable age related charisma.
The chair is in excellent condition, very sturdy, with age-appropriate worn edges and small nicks and scratches to be expected.
Size: 44" Height by 32" Width by 19" Depth.
