Pair of Harrach Bohemian Opaline Glass Enamel Vases With Gnomes

Offered for sale is an outstanding example of the artistic enameled glass that was produced in the Bohemian glass houses during the late 18th to 19th centuries. This pair of blue opaline layered glass vases was made by one of the oldest and most esteemed of those glass houses, Harrach. The turquoise ground-colored glass is thickly enameled with gnomes gathering flowers into bouquets and and bordered with raised beading. The ovular bodies with narrow necks are raised on socle bases.

The Harrach Glass House, nestled in the remote mountains of Northern Bohemia, was started in 1712 by Count Harrach. Their production was so prolific that they also provided blanks for other glass houses and employed a large number of designers and decorators. Many pieces attributed to other makers have eventually proven to be Harrach productions, and identification still remains a challenge.

The vases are in excellent condition and luckily signed on the base, a rare occurrence, which positively identifies these beautiful examples.

Size: 13" Height.
