Presented for sale is a late 19th century Kingwood banded Louis XV style transitional French Semainier with marble top mounted in ormolu.
Slender and tall, these elegant pieces of furniture were used in France in the 18th and 19th century to hold seven days worth of clothes, hence the name "semaine", meaning week. They usually had six to eight drawers and were enhanced with ormolu mounts, marquetry inlays, and were surmounted with marble.
The Semainier is in excellent condition with minor signs of wear commensurate with age.
Size: 54" Height by 28" Width by 17" Depth.
