In the background lies the outline of a small town against a softened sky, possible the town of Berkshire.
Clifford Montague was a prolific British artist who flourished in the latter part of the 19th and early 20th century painting the countryside of Great Britain, Italy, and France. His captivating landscapes often depicted charming townships enhanced by his masterful use of blending bright earthy colors against a warm and friendly background. His adept brushstrokes were used with great proficiency to highlight certain areas of his canvas where he wanted the light to reflect and capture the observer's eye.
The painting is in excellent condition with a small paint fleck near frame upper center, signed on the lower right hand side.
