Set of Four Japan Pattern Coalport Tea Cups & Saucers

A beautiful set of four late 19th century hand painted Coalport china tea cups and saucers in one of their popular “Japan” patterns.

The Japan patterns were originally produced at Coalport in 1800-15 during the John Rose period. They were beloved for the richness of their impressive decoration; deep underglaze cobalt blues, with overglaze reds and greens, highlighted in gilt embellishments. These patterns were most popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries because they emulated the earlier Japanese Imari styles. With their rich ornamentation, these wares are still as popular and hotly collected today as in earlier centuries.

A most vibrant and showy set, they would be perfect for cabinet display. All pieces are in excellent condition with little to no gilt or paint wear.

Size of Tea Cup: 2 ½” Height.

Size of Saucer: 5 ¼” Diameter.
