Rare matching set of 12 Keller and Guerin Luneville Asparagus plates featuring scalloped rims with a basket weave design on a wide yellow border. Lettuce and asparagus, in a raised relief pattern, flank a sauce well in the center. The plates are in excellent age related condition with vivid glazing and vibrant colors, minor crazing present.
The Luneville factory was founded in France in 1730. They started producing their popular Majolica wares in the latter half of the 19th century under the management of Keller and Guerin. They were well known for their whimsical asparagus services, their unique designs, and their use of vivid glaze coloration.
It is rare to find a complete service for 12, much less in the wonderful condition of this lovely set.
