19th C. Gilt Bronze Jewelry Casket or Box With Ivory Portrait

A 19th century French gilt bronze jewelry casket or box decorated with chased designs and applied scrollwork on the hinged lid. The box is shaped in an unusual form.

The lid is embellished with a hand painted miniature ivory portrait of Marie Antoinette in a charming Mop cap. The miniature is illegible signed by the artist as shown, and protected with glass on the obverse. The box is lined in a wonderful old original French silk.

The box is in excellent age related condition with some scratches to the ivory portrait.
