Near Pair of William Mason Beaded Frame Mark Series Sauce Tureen With Stands and Cover
He produced the Beaded Frame Mark Series around 1815-20. It consisted of a series of rural scenes with beaded edges, hence the name "Beaded Frame." It was made in blue and white or blue and white with color, the latter being scarcer.
The sauce tureens are supported on oval pedestals, which fit on the stand atop a raised oval dais; the covers are finished with pomegranate finials. The leafy handles and finials are stepped up with gilding and the edges are enameled in brown on one tureen set, the other finished with gilding. Each piece has a named scene.
The pieces are in excellent age appropriate condition. As with most early English earthenware the interiors have some discoloration and there is some loss to the edge enamels. One of the tops (the gilded) has a repaired crack, and its matching base a hairline starting to form. These issues are minuscule in comparison to the rarity of having this pair, so we've left them in the condition we found them.
