Ferdinand Pautrot 19th century Gaming Bird Bronze

An exquisite 19th century bronze sculpture of gaming birds eating worms on a crop of rocks by Ferdinand Pautrot (1832 – 1874.) The sculpture is finely detailed, signed and dated as shown.

Pautrot was born in Poitiers France in 1832, and was a skilled animalier best known for his realistic portrayals of birds and dogs. This talented artist exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1861 and 1870. His is best remembered as a skillful modeler who produced high quality castings of great detail and superb finishes rivaling that of his contemporary Jules Moigniez. When you observe his bronzes there is little doubt as to the type of fowl or breed of dog being represented, such is the preciseness of his sculptures.

The bronze is in excellent condition with aged patina to the finish, perfect for a desk or shelf.
