Blue & White Chinese Canton Porcelain Vase

A mid 20th century blue and white Canton Chinese Export porcelain vase with theatrical figures posed in front of a draped window.

Exporting Chinese porcelain began as early at the 16th century when the Dutch East India Company established the first "modern" trading station in Canton. Soon these wares were being exported to Great Britain and the European Continent where styles developed to suit this market. Export to the Americas was established sometime later towards the end of the 18th century. Blue & White Canton was a derivation of the Willow pattern, which was the first pattern to appear on Chinese exports. Its popularity was at its peek from 1820 – 1880, however, it has become beloved by collectors for its simple blue and white color combination and charming landscapes.

The vase is in excellent condition with firing glaze discoloration, original to the piece, on the bottom border.

Size: 14 7/8" Height.
