Neoclassical 18th C. Trumeau Mirror With Inset Phanolith en Verdaille Painting
Exceptional Neoclassical 18th century large Trumeau mirror with carved giltwood Boiserie applied on painted panels. The mirror sits below an inset panel fitted with an oil painting on canvas; a Phanolith (cameo) with en Verdaille background (painted in predominant greens). The painting is a scene from classical mythology featuring Hermes (or Mercury) holding his Caduceus, beside a brazier of fire.
The mirror is in excellent age-related condition with minor restoration to the gilded finish and a minor amount of structural reinforcement to the panels. All parts are original with the exception of the looking glass, which exhibits age wear and appears to be late 19th or early 20th century.
Size: 71” Height by 43” Width.
