We proudly present one of the finest pairs of French Louis XV patinated doré bronze candelabras we've ever seen. The detail in the casting is nothing short of astonishing, each candelabrum has 8 arms that resemble intertwining grape vines, festooned with leaves and grape clusters; the central column mimics the arms and is also profusely decorated.
Standing at the foot of each vine is the fully formed figure of a putti, and if you look closely, you can see that one is filling his glass with wine and the other is harvesting wheat. The candelabras are supported on heavy scrolled bases that are appropriately weighted for the top-heaviness of the pieces.
The doré and patinated finishes are in excellent age-appropriate condition. Such is the quality of these candelabras that we have no doubt they once graced the mantel of a vineyard castle or noble house. They were obviously made for mantels as the backs are rather plain and the majority of decoration is toward the front to allow for them to fit snugly flush to the wall.
We don't say this too often but these are truly museum quality. They are in excellent condition, having been at one time fitted for electricity (main stem only). They are extremely heavy and crating is suggested for shipment.
