Late 19th C. Sitzendorf German Porcelain Compote

A fine, late 19th century, two-part German Sitzendorf porcelain compote. The compote consists of a reticulated round bowl with scalloped edge and profuse floral and vine encrustation. The bowl fits onto a central stylized column that supports two courting figures on a heavy floral encrusted base.

These compotes are perfect for centerpieces because they are beautiful viewed from all angles. The history of porcelain production in Sitzendorf began in 1760 under the commission of prince Johann Friedrich of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Under the direction of Alfred and Carl Willhelm Voight, in the 19th century, the factory produced high-quality porcelain figures and figural groups.

The compote is in very good condition with an age related chip to the column capital, two fingers chipped on the hand of the man, and minor chipping to the floral encrustations. Very few of these pieces come through the years unscathed, the chips remain as a testament to that patina.

Size: 16 ¼” H x 10 ¼”.
